Student Handbook - Getting Started

ACE is excited to welcome its new students. In order to ensure students are prepared to excel in their classes, six key things are helpful to get started at American College of Education:

  1. Log into your MyACE portal.
  2. Complete the ACE Orientation in the Canvas Learning Management System.
  3. Attend the “Next Steps” Webinar hosted by Student Services before the term start. If you cannot attend, a recording is available.
  4. Familiarize yourself with Student Commons.
  5. Pay tuition. Tuition is due the Friday before the first day of your course. To ensure access, please pay this prior to the deadline.
  6. Download the ACE mobile app. The mobile app will allow you to access your student account and course information from any mobile device.

MyACE Portal

Step 1: Student Information and MyACE Portal
The MyACE Portal is an important tool for you during your tenure at ACE. You will access this Portal for a number of reasons: view course schedule/map, print unofficial transcripts, access student request forms, see your GPA and degree progress, and pay your tuition.

To access your MyACE Portal, click on the Log in to MyACE button on the American College of Education web site at: https://myace.ace.edu

New Student Orientation

Step 2: New Student Orientation
The best way to begin your time at ACE is to complete the ACE Orientation. This orientation introduces new students to College policies and procedures, the degree programs, the library database systems, information literacy, student services, academic support, and tips for online learning, graduate level writing expectations, and how to navigate the learning management system.

You will gain access to Canvas, ACE’s Learning Management System (LMS), shortly after being enrolled at ACE. An email will be sent to you with log-in and access information. At this time, you will gain access to Student Commons (more information below). Your Orientation will be housed in Student Commons. Please make sure to access this and complete prior to your first day of courses at ACE.

Often, students will want to review items in the orientation after starting their first course. If you find yourself in this situation, you can access orientation at any time during your course of study at ACE through Student Commons.

Next Steps Webinar

Step 3: Next Steps Webinar
A few weeks prior to starting your classes, you will receive an invitation from the Student Services team to attend a “Next Steps Webinar”. This webinar will review Canvas, course policies/procedures, and review Frequently Asked Questions. In addition, time for you to ask any questions will be available. A recording of this session will be sent to all new students after the session to assist those not able to attend or to be referenced as needed.

Student Commons

Step 4: Student Commons
As mentioned in the introduction, ACE utilizes a Student Commons to communicate with students. As a student, you will be automatically enrolled in Student Commons. Student Commons is a virtual place for students to learn more about the College and a repository for additional resources to support learning at American College of Education.

You will want to access and familiarize yourself with the Commons prior to starting classes. In Student Commons, you will find the following:

  • Orientation
  • Discussion Boards
  • Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
  • Internship/Practicum Resources (Internship Toolbox)
  • Student Teaching Information
  • Dissertation Resources
  • Capstone Planning Guides and Instructional Tools
  • Writing Center
  • Digital Learning Center
  • Staff Directory
  • College Calendar

Payment of Tuition and Fees

Step 5: Payment of Tuition and Fees
All course tuition and fees are due the Friday before the start of each term. Lack of payment prior to the start of each term could result in lack of access to courses.

Students from whom payment of all course tuition and fees - including the conferral and any applicable fees - has not been received by the end of the day on the Friday after the term start will lose access to their coursework and be administratively withdrawn or canceled from the College for nonpayment regardless of any work completed and/or submitted for grading.

Students who wish to have their enrollment reinstated after being administratively withdrawn for nonpayment can pay an additional $100 Reinstatement Fee by the end of the day, the Tuesday the week after the term begins. If not reinstated by this time, administratively withdrawn students will need to apply for re-entry to the College in a future term. [See the Re-entry/Readmission section for more information].

Please note the Reinstatement Fee is payable by credit card only.

Students who may receive reimbursement of their tuition costs from an employer or other third-party must also satisfy these payment requirements to avoid losing access to their coursework and being administratively withdrawn for nonpayment.

Download ACE Mobile App

The ACE mobile app, available for download at the app store on your mobile device, allows you to stay connected with ACE from your mobile or tablet device. Through the app, you can view your courses, access the ACE calendar, make a payment, view any holds on your account, and much more. The app is not required for students to download; however; it makes online education even more convenient.
