Today, social media encompasses a broad sweep of online activity, all of which is trackable and traceable. These networks include not only the blogs you write and those to which you comment, but social networks such as “Facebook” and “Twitter”; professional networks such as “LinkedIn”; and the micro-blogging tool, “Twitter”. This policy is provided to help you as an employee to understand the College’s position and expectations regarding your activities in these areas. Please be aware that the absence of, or lack of explicit reference to, a specific site does not limit the extent of the application of this policy. Where no policy or guideline exists, employees should use their professional judgment and take prudent action. Consult with your manager or supervisor if you are uncertain.
Your Identity Online
You should not hold yourself out as representing ACE or its views on one of these sites, unless you are authorized in writing by your manager to do so. Outside the workplace, your rights to privacy and free speech protect online activity conducted on your personal social networks with your personal email address. However, what you publish on such personal online sites should never be directly attributed to the College and should not appear to be endorsed by or originated from the College.
Confidentiality and Privacy
Do not disclose the confidential information of the College, student, co-worker or other work associates through any form of online media. College names, logos, and trademarks may not be used without written consent from the President. Sharing this type of information, even unintentionally, can result in legal action against you, the College, and/or the student. Do not identify the names of our students, business partners or vendors or their employees.
Inquiries and Recommendations
If you are contacted directly by a journalist regarding the College or any issues of concern to the College, DO NOT RESPOND. Immediately send notification of any inquiry to the President. The College’s stance on this matter is strictly enforced and anyone found responding on behalf of or to query’s regarding the College may be immediately terminated. Do not take it upon yourself to respond to a negative post. If a blogger or any other online participant posts an inaccurate, accusatory or negative comment about the College, partner, or student, DO NOT ENGAGE in the conversation.
VIOLATION OF THESE GUIDELINES AND COLLEGE POLICY CAN AND MAY RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTION, INCLUDING IMMEDIATE TERMINATION OF YOUR EMPLOYMENT AND LEGAL ACTION.
