Student Handbook - Opening and General Information

Welcome to American College of Education

Welcome! We are honored you have chosen ACE for your educational goals! We have created the Student Handbook to:

  • Provide you with an introduction to the College.
  • Support you as you get started in your program and help address questions.
  • Inform you of procedural steps to accompany the policies in the Catalog.
  • Offer a listing of departments/services available to support you and your academic pursuit.
  • Provide guidance for your capstone experience, if required as a part of your program.

It’s imperative you take the time to review this handbook, the catalog, and any supporting documents associated with your program of study to become informed of expectations. ACE makes every attempt to remain flexible; however, rules and penalties will not be waived, or exceptions granted just because someone is unaware of specific policies or procedures. In addition to this handbook, Student Commons also provides up-to-date information about the College, courses, and procedures you will find invaluable. When/If any changes occur at ACE, they will be communicated in the Commons.

As an American College of Education student, you will have access to experienced and accomplished faculty members, rich course content, and expansive library resources. Our state-of-the-art technology platform provides the ability to work on or offline with full access to all course materials, truly providing anytime, anywhere learning which gives you the edge to completing your master’s degree online.

Background and History

Founded in the digital age, American College of Education is committed to providing educational programs for teachers, administrators, and other professionals that will prepare them to meet the challenges of 21st-century students, schools, and communities. In early 2013, ACE launched its first post-master’s degree programs, the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Leadership, and the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership. In addition, the College introduced the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) and Transition to Teaching (T2T) programs which lead to initial teacher licensure in Indiana. ACE has continued to grow into additional fields, such as healthcare. In 2014, ACE welcomed its first students in a healthcare program, M.Ed. in Health and Wellness Education. This department expanded in 2017, through the addition of the B.S. in Healthcare Administration program, and in 2018 with the addition of the RN to MSN program.

Campus Security and Emergency Procedures

In the case of national and local emergencies that affect the delivery of education to the student body, the College administration will use the learning management system, email, the College website, social media sites, and telephone to alert students, faculty, and staff to alternate methods of accessing coursework.
